Most people give Braj a single day, and then wish they had given it three. One day is enough to say you have been. Three days is enough to feel it: the quiet of Gokul, the full bells of Vrindavan and the long walk around the hill Krishna lifted.
This is a plan for those who want a yatra, not a race. It is built around the order of the stories, with room to sit, to eat and to rest.
Who this plan suits
It suits families, couples and small groups who want to see the main places without hurrying, and who can manage walks of 10 to 20 minutes at a time. It can be adapted for elders and children, as shown at the end.
It does not suit a very tight schedule, a festival week, or anyone who wants to avoid early starts. Barsana and Govardhan reward a 6:30 am departure.
Day 1: Mathura and Gokul
Start at Krishna Janmabhoomi in the early hours, when the wait is short. Leave your phone with the driver, because electronics are not allowed inside. Then visit Potra Kund and Dwarkadhish (check the darshan windows), and end the morning at Vishram Ghat with a kachori breakfast and a look at the river. Driving for the day is about 35 km.
After lunch, drive to Gokul, about 12 km from Mathura Junction. See Nand Bhawan, Raman Reti and, at dusk, Brahmand Ghat. These are quiet places and a calm end to the first day.
Day 2: Vrindavan, the old town and the ghats
Begin at Radha Damodar, a small temple near Seva Kunj, before the crowd arrives. Then walk through Seva Kunj and Nidhivan, to Banke Bihari (go early, since the midday close is firm) and Radha Raman. Madan Mohan and Kesi Ghat follow, with the Yamuna aarti at dusk. Driving is about 20 km, and the walking in the old town is the real distance.
If you have energy left, ISKCON Vrindavan is a gentle evening, with kirtan and a sattvik meal. Prem Mandir is nearby for the lights.
Day 3: Govardhan, Barsana and Nandgaon
Leave by 6:30 am. Govardhan is about 25 km from Mathura, 45 to 60 minutes. Visit Daan Ghati, Mansi Ganga and Radha Kund, with Kusum Sarovar as an optional stop. The whole parikrama is about 21 km, which takes 6 to 8 hours on foot or 2 to 4 hours by e-rickshaw with stops, so most visitors take a shorter selection.
Then drive to Barsana, about 25 to 30 km on, and reach the Radha Rani temple before the afternoon close, or in the late afternoon for the evening opening. Nandgaon is 8 km further, and Pavan Sarovar at dusk is a lovely finish before the long drive back. Total driving this day is about 100 km.
Travel times and what to verify
These times are from the guide and are approximate, so check a live map on the day. Mathura Junction to Vrindavan is about 12 to 14 km and 30 to 45 minutes. Mathura to Barsana is around 50 km, and Delhi airport to Vrindavan is about 175 km via the Yamuna Expressway, near three hours.
Roads near the temples can be closed or diverted, especially on Purnima, Sundays and festival days.
Where to eat and rest
Keep lunch simple: kachori at Vishram Ghat on day one, a sattvik meal at ISKCON on day two and tea stalls along the Govardhan route. In Barsana and Nandgaon, the market stalls offer chaat and lassi. Toilets are limited at many sites, so use them whenever you find them.
The Laladham homestay is a quiet base for the three nights. After lunch, rest. The temples close for the afternoon, and so should you.
A light breakfast before you leave each morning helps, and so does a bottle of water in the car. Carry a small cloth bag for shoes and a scarf for the head, as many temples ask for modest dress and bare feet.
What a lala:Cab package includes
A lala:Cab yatra includes the car and driver for all three days, a local guide on request, and help with timing, parking and queue planning. Please ask for the current quote and inclusions, since they change with season and group size.
The idea is that you carry only your devotion, and we take on the logistics.
Variations: seniors, children and festival days
For seniors, ask for an e-rickshaw circuit at Govardhan instead of walking, choose step-free stops like ISKCON, and drop the Barsana climb for a visit at the foot. For children, keep the days shorter and add a river stop.
On festival days, expect closed roads and long walks. Avoid Janmashtami, Holi and Purnima weekends, or start the day before, and ask for a plan built around the restrictions.
Questions, answered
Is three days enough for Braj?
It covers the main places at an easy pace. The 84 kos yatra needs much longer.
What is the best order?
Mathura and Gokul first, Vrindavan in the middle, then the hills of Govardhan and Barsana, following the story and the distances.
Can I do Govardhan and Barsana in one day?
Yes, with a very early start and a selection of stops instead of the full parikrama.
Which season is best?
October to February is cooler. Summer needs very early starts.
Timings, entry rules and fees change. Please confirm on the day with the temple or your driver.
