On the Nandishwar hill, Nand Baba's home village, where Krishna lived as a cowherd boy and the men play Lathmar Holi.

Because of the repeated attacks on Gokul by demons sent by Kansa, the elders led by Upananda advised Nanda to move the settlement. They went to Vrindavan (Srimad Bhagavatam 10.11.21 to 10.11.35). A tradition places Nanda's palace, with the fields and the herds, on the Nandishwar hill, which is Nandgaon today.
Nandgaon is where Krishna's boyhood continued: herding cows, stealing butter, playing with his friends. It is also the home village of the Nandgaon men who come to Barsana at Holi to tease Radha's friends, and who are met with sticks and laughter. The next day the Barsana women come to Nandgaon, where the same game is played back.
The hilltop temple of Nand Bhawan honours Nanda, Yashoda, Krishna and Balarama, and offers a wonderful view over the Braj plain.
