You step out of Arrivals, tired from a long flight, and there is the question that every pilgrim asks: how do I get to Vrindavan, and will it go well? The honest answer is that it is a straightforward road journey of about three hours, and it goes best when the plan is made before you land.
Here are the distance, the route, the choices and a fair way to book, so that your first hours in Braj begin in peace.
Distance and time
Delhi airport to Vrindavan is about 170 to 175 km, and the common figure is three to three and a half hours via the Yamuna Expressway. Mathura Junction is about 165 km, and Banke Bihari in Vrindavan about 175 km. Check a live map on the day, since traffic near Delhi and at Mathura varies.
Add time for the last few kilometres. Cars cannot enter the old lanes of Vrindavan, so the final part of the journey is often on foot or by e-rickshaw.
If you arrive at night, ask your stay whether late check-in is possible and keep the driver's number saved. Roads near Mathura are quiet at night but poorly lit in places, so many families prefer to sleep near the airport and drive in the morning.
Route options and road conditions
Most cabs leave Delhi toward Noida and join the Yamuna Expressway, then exit toward Mathura and Vrindavan. The expressway is smooth and fast in clear weather. The alternative is the older highway through Faridabad and Palwal, which is slower and busier.
In winter fog, the expressway speed limits are lowered. In the 2025 season light vehicles were capped at 75 km per hour from 15 December to 15 February. Our fog-season post covers this in detail.
Cab, train and bus: an honest comparison
A cab is door to door, handles luggage and elders, and can wait if your flight is late. A train runs from Delhi to Mathura Junction, but you must first reach a Delhi station from the airport and then arrange onward transport from Mathura, so it suits light travellers more than families. Buses run from Delhi to Mathura and Vrindavan, but the schedules and terminals should be checked locally.
For a family with bags, a first visit or any elder, the cab is the simplest choice. The train is cheaper and fine for a solo traveller who knows the system.
A note on the Noida International Airport at Jewar: we have not verified its status or distance to Vrindavan, so please ask us before you book a flight into it and we will check the current road time with you.
Time by hour
A landing at noon puts you in Vrindavan in the late afternoon, in time for an evening aarti. A landing at 6 am, after a night flight, is better with a rest on arrival, since temples are closed through the afternoon in any case.
The temple rhythm matters here. Banke Bihari is shut in the afternoon, roughly from 1 pm to 4:30 pm. If you reach town at that time, go to your room, eat and rest, and keep the first darshan for the evening.
What a fair booking looks like
A fair booking states the vehicle, the pickup point, the final fare including tolls and the waiting time allowed. At lala:Cab, fixed one-way fares are shown on the site, and a sedan from Delhi airport to Vrindavan is Rs 5,600 all-in, with a hatchback at Rs 5,000. Please check the booking page for the current figure.
Share your flight number so the driver can track delays. Ask that the driver's name and number are sent before you land, and that the car holds your bags and passengers comfortably.
Tolls on the expressway are usually included in an all-in fare, but ask. Waiting charges beyond an hour at the airport may apply, so share your landing time and baggage situation clearly.
Arrival plan in Braj
Go straight to your stay, eat something light and rest. If you have the energy, ISKCON or Prem Mandir in the evening is a gentle start, because both are easy to reach by car. Keep Banke Bihari for a fresh morning.
Carry water and some cash for small tolls and parking. Parking at the temples is usually Rs 20 to 100, depending on the place.
