By train, the sensible way
The August Kranti Rajdhani Express (12953) is RailYatri's pick for the quickest Surat to Mathura ride, nearly twelve hours. The Golden Temple Mail (12903) runs from Mumbai towards Amritsar via Surat and Mathura, leaving Surat late evening around 22:00 and arriving at Mathura Junction near 11:40 the next day.
Other services like the Paschim Express (12925) and Swaraj Express (12471) also link the two. Timings and days of running change, so always check IRCTC.
If you prefer to fly
Surat has direct flights to Delhi, which usually take around two hours. From Delhi Airport a cab reaches Vrindavan in about three and a half hours. For two or three travellers, the total journey is similar to the Rajdhani but with the fatigue of a morning start.
Our suggestion for Surat families
Take the evening train, sleep through the night, and be met at Mathura Junction by a lala:Cab driver. Reach Laladham, rest, and visit Banke Bihari at the next open darshan. The return trip can reverse the order: a Vrindavan evening, then board late.
Plan for four days
- Day 1: arrive in the morning, check in, Vrindavan temples and evening aarti.
- Day 2: Mathura, Gokul and Raval.
- Day 3: Govardhan parikrama by cab and Radha Kund.
- Day 4: Barsana and Nandgaon, then back to the station.
What Gujarati pilgrims look for
Gujarati guests often arrive devoted to Shrinathji, Dwarkadhish and Pushtimarg havelis. In Braj, that means Gokul, where the Vallabhacharya seats are, and Govardhan, where Shrinathji first appeared. A guide who can tell this Pushtimarg thread makes the trip feel like a homecoming.
Food matters, and so does the timing: we arrange simple Jain-friendly meals on request.
Reaching Mathura Junction
When the Rajdhani arrives, Mathura Junction is quiet in the early morning. Your driver waits near the exit and helps with luggage. The ride to Vrindavan is short, about 12 km, so you can be in your room in less than an hour. If the train is late, we keep your room and your breakfast.
The Golden Temple Mail reaches around lunchtime, so you can begin the day with Vishram Ghat and Dwarkadhish in Mathura, then go on to Vrindavan for evening aarti.
A note on seasons
Surat's coastal warmth makes Braj's winter a surprise. Bring a jacket, socks for cold floors, and a light shawl for early aarti. Summers are harsh, so a May trip needs a start at dawn and a rest in the afternoon.
Look after the journey
We keep dharma and responsibility at the centre, as the Gita asks. That is a way of saying we turn up when we say we will.
