The two trains
ConfirmTkt lists the August Kranti Rajdhani (12953) from Vadodara at 21:54, reaching Mathura at 07:53, about 10 hours over roughly 850 km. The Golden Temple Mail (12903) leaves Vadodara at 23:44 and reaches Mathura at 11:40, nearly 12 hours.
The reverse trains are 12954 and 12904. Some pages report slightly different times, so check IRCTC.
Flying
Vadodara has direct flights to Delhi, typically around two hours. From the airport a cab reaches Vrindavan in 3 to 3.5 hours. For a short weekend, flying gives you an extra half day in Braj.
Pushtimarg in Braj
Shrinathji, Vallabhacharya and the Pushtimarg havelis connect Gujarat and Braj. In Gokul you can see the places linked to Vallabhacharya, and Govardhan is where Shrinathji first appeared. Our guide tells this thread, with the seva traditions that Vadodara families keep at home.
A three day plan
- Day 1: arrive by Rajdhani, rest, Vrindavan temples and evening aarti.
- Day 2: Mathura, Gokul and Raval.
- Day 3: Govardhan, Radha Kund and the evening train home.
Tips for Gujarati groups
Jain meals, no onion and garlic, and early dinners are all easy to arrange. Tell us in advance and the Laladham kitchen prepares them. We also suggest carrying a light shawl for evening aarti, as Braj nights cool quickly after October.
Reaching Mathura in the morning
The Rajdhani lands you at Mathura Junction around breakfast time. That leaves the entire day. We suggest dropping luggage at Laladham, then going straight to Vishram Ghat in Mathura for a quiet beginning on the Yamuna, followed by Janmasthan and Dwarkadhish before lunch.
On the return, the Mail can be a friendlier choice, since it leaves Mathura at a time that allows a full Braj morning.
Havelis and seva
Gokul has the old Pushtimarg bethak seats, and Govardhan has Jatipura and the Shrinathji legend. For families who keep seva at home, a guided visit with time to sit quietly at each place is the real gift of the yatra.
Making the most of the stay
Vrindavan's pace changes with the day. Morning temples are quieter, mid-day brings closures, and evenings draw big crowds. Aim for early darshan, a rest at noon, and aarti at ISKCON, Prem Mandir or Banke Bihari in the evening.
If a festival coincides with your dates, tell us and we adjust your route to avoid the thickest crowds.
- Exact Rajdhani and Mail times for your date
- Direct Vadodara to Delhi flight operators
- Road distance Vadodara to Mathura (about 900 km, not source-verified)
