Radhashtami 2027 in Barsana

Radhashtami: about 8 Sep 2027Barsana and RavalTwo weeks after Janmashtami

Two weeks after Krishna's birthday, Braj celebrates Radha's. Barsana, her village, dresses up. The temple on the hill fills with songs, flowers and peacock dances, and devotees climb the steps with one name on their lips.

Date for 2027

Radhashtami falls on Wednesday 8 September 2027 according to most sources we checked on 23 Oct 2026, and one source gives Tuesday 7 September, because the tithi spans two days. Confirm locally closer to the date.

What to expect

  • Barsana: the Radha Rani (Ladli ji) temple on Brahmanchal hill, reached by a long climb of steps. Go early, take it slowly, and carry water.
  • Fair, singing and Mayur leela performances during the days around the festival.
  • Raval, near Gokul: the place held to be Radha's birthplace, with its own celebration.
  • Vrindavan: Radha-centred temples such as Radha Raman and Radha Vallabh hold special darshan.
September is humid and the monsoon may still bring showers. Wear shoes with grip on the hill steps.

Planning

Barsana is about 43 km from Mathura, around an hour and a quarter by road, and the last stretch on festival days may be a walk. Base yourself in Vrindavan or Mathura and go early. Book your car and room two months ahead.

We follow the path Krishna gave in the Gita and keep dharma at each place, taking responsibility for the whole day. On Radhashtami we keep the plan simple: one great darshan and a calm meal after.
