One of Braj's twelve sacred forests, a hidden gem of ancient kunds, the Vimal Kund and the 84 pillars.
Kamyavan means the forest that fulfils wishes (kama). The Puranas list twelve forests of Braj: Madhuvan, Talavan, Kumudvan, Bahulavan, Kamyavan, Khadiravan, Vrindavan, Bhandirvan, Bilvavan, Lohavan, Bhadravan and Mahavan. Pilgrims on the Braj parikrama pass through Kamyavan, which lies in Rajasthan, in modern Deeg district.
Tradition says the Pandavas lived in the Kamyaka forest during their exile (Mahabharata, Vana Parva). Kamyavan is associated with Krishna's pastimes, with Vimala Kund (where the Vimala Devi is worshipped) and with the old stone hall called the Chaurasi Khamba (84 pillars).
Come here if you want the old Braj: fewer crowds, centuries-old stone temples and a village atmosphere. For more detail, check locally.
