Fly to Delhi
IndiGo describes the Nagpur to Delhi distance as about 851 km in the air, with an average flight time of about two hours. That makes the flight the better option for most families. From Delhi Airport a cab reaches Vrindavan in 3 to 3.5 hours, so you can be at evening aarti on the same day.
By train
The Kerala Express runs between Thiruvananthapuram and New Delhi as 12625 and 12626. Schedules list the 12626 reaching Nagpur around 11:45 and Mathura Junction around 21:38, 141 km from New Delhi. The northbound 12625 passes the same stations in the other direction, so check its times for your date.
A through train means one night at most. For elders it is gentler than a rushed flight, since nobody needs to cross Delhi.
Overland
Nagpur to Mathura by road is a very long haul, well over a thousand kilometres. We do not recommend it unless you are touring the central India circuit and want a driver for the whole trip.
A four day outline
- Day 1: arrive, rest at Laladham, evening aarti at ISKCON.
- Day 2: Mathura and Gokul.
- Day 3: Govardhan and Radha Kund.
- Day 4: Barsana and Nandgaon, then back to the airport.
Nagpur pilgrims and Braj
Vidarbha has a lively Krishna bhakti tradition, with a living Warkari tradition. A guide can point out the places that matter most to Krishna bhakti in your own tradition.
Orange city, Braj bound
Nagpur travellers love food, and Braj will test your sweet tooth. Peda, rabri, malai makkhan in winter and kachori with aloo are all part of daily life. Eat in small portions and walk after meals, because temple stairs and cobbled lanes ask for energy.
A simple tip: carry a power bank and a cloth bag. Phones drain quickly when you photograph festivals and rituals.
Choosing between flight and train
Flying is better for a short stay, since it saves a night on a train. The train suits a slower, group-friendly journey, but it reaches Mathura late in the evening. Decide by the length of your leave and the age of your travellers.
A gentle pace for the Braj leg
Braj is best when it is unforced. A typical day has one big darshan, one meal at home, and a rest. Vrindavan's lanes are narrow and busy, so we use e-rickshaws for the final stretch to Banke Bihari and meet you where the lane opens.
On Ekadashi and Purnima, crowds are heavier. Plan those days for the fields and ghats instead.
