Flying in from Mumbai, Bengaluru or Chennai to Vrindavan

If you live in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Pune or Kolkata, Vrindavan is far, and the first question is which airport to choose and how to cover the last stretch. Nobody wants to arrive at a strange town at midnight, tired and uncertain.

It is said that a pilgrim's journey begins at home, in the planning. Here is a simple plan: fly to Delhi, take a road transfer, and give yourself a soft first day.

The usual route: fly to Delhi, then drive

Vrindavan has no airport of its own. Most travellers from the south and west fly into Delhi, which is about 170 to 175 km from Vrindavan and about three hours by road via the Yamuna Expressway. Our research on how India searches for Vrindavan shows that people from Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune and Kolkata mostly look for hotels and packages, and many flights lead into Delhi.

Flight times from these cities to Delhi are in the range of two to three hours, but schedules change, so check your airline. Book a flight that lands in the morning or early afternoon if you can, so that you reach Vrindavan in daylight.

If you have the time, a direct train from your home city to Mathura Junction can be a pleasant way to arrive, with the added benefit that Mathura is closer to the old town than the airport is. For most families with children or elders, though, the single flight and a cab are less tiring.

Distance and time from the airport

Delhi airport to Vrindavan is about 170 to 175 km, with Banke Bihari at about 175 km and Mathura Junction about 165 km. Allow three to three and a half hours in clear weather, longer in fog or heavy traffic around Delhi. Check a live map on the day.

Cars cannot enter the old lanes of Vrindavan, so the last stretch may be on foot or by e-rickshaw.

Route options and road conditions

Most cabs take the Yamuna Expressway via Noida, a smooth fast road in clear weather. The older highway through Faridabad and Palwal is slower. In winter fog, speed limits drop. In the 2025 season, light vehicles were capped at 75 km per hour from 15 December to 15 February, and we have no announcement yet for 2026 to 2027.

If you travel in December or January, keep a buffer of one to two hours. Our fog-season guide explains it.

Cab, train and bus: an honest comparison

A cab from the airport is the simplest for families, elders and luggage. It can wait if your flight is late. Trains run to Mathura Junction from Delhi and from several large cities, and some travellers take a train directly from their home city to Mathura. Check IRCTC for current services, since we have not verified specific trains.

A flight to Delhi followed by a train adds a transfer and waiting time. A bus is the cheapest and the slowest. For a first trip, we suggest the cab.

Baggage is the quiet deciding factor. A cab with a boot for two large suitcases and a driver who helps with them removes the hardest part of travel for elders. Ask for a car size that suits your group, because a hatchback fits four people but not four people and four bags.

What a fair booking looks like

A fair booking states the vehicle, the pickup point, the all-in fare with tolls, and the waiting time allowed. Share your flight number so that the driver can track delays, and ask for the driver's name and phone before you land.

At lala:Cab, fixed one-way fares between Delhi airport and Vrindavan are shown on the site. Please see the booking page for the current figure.

If your flight lands after 9 pm, consider sleeping near the airport and driving in the morning.

Arrival plan in Braj

On the first day, go to your stay, eat and rest. Banke Bihari is closed in the afternoon, roughly 1 pm to 4:30 pm, so keep the first darshan for the evening or the next morning. ISKCON and Prem Mandir make easy evening visits. Dress modestly and carry little.

Carry some cash for parking, shoe stands and tea. A SIM that works on arrival helps you reach your driver.

Think of the first twenty-four hours as a landing, not a darshan. Sleep, eat light sattvik food, drink water and let the body catch up with the new climate. A gentle walk in the evening light is plenty. The temples will be there tomorrow.
