The same train, numbered 12903 in the other direction, stops at Mathura Junction, New Delhi, Ambala Cantt, Ludhiana and Jalandhar City. Timings on other apps vary, so check the live schedule.
Different sources quote different rail distances. Whichever you trust, the overnight timing is what matters.
By road
I could not verify a reliable road distance for Ludhiana to Mathura, but it is well beyond 450 km and takes a full day. Self-driving through Delhi at the end is the toughest part. For groups, we offer a cab with a rested driver and a halt at Karnal or Panipat.
Flying
Flights from Ludhiana's airport are limited. Many Ludhiana travellers go to Chandigarh or Amritsar for flights, or board an overnight train. Unless you are short of days, the Mail is the simplest choice.
A three day plan
- Day 1: Arrive early, rest, Banke Bihari in the afternoon, evening aarti.
- Day 2: Mathura, Gokul and Govardhan.
- Day 3: Barsana, Nandgaon and a late train home.

Reaching in the early morning
Arriving at around dawn is a quiet advantage. The air is cool, the markets are waking, and the first aarti sounds from many temples. We can drop you at Laladham, offer tea and let you rest until the first darshan slot.
Women travelling in groups often value the early arrival, since the roads are calm and the check-in is hassle free.
Return planning
The Mail from Mathura towards Ludhiana is listed in the opposite direction as 12903 stopping at Mathura Junction around late morning. That gives you a full last morning in Braj before heading to the station. Your driver brings you to the platform with time to spare.
What to see with limited days
If you have only two days, keep Vrindavan for day one and Mathura plus Govardhan for day two. A guide on the second day helps a lot, because Govardhan has many kunds and shrines, and the stories are what make the parikrama come alive.
Vishram Ghat at dusk is a short, lovely close to the stay before the night train.
