By road
Route sites give figures across a 50 km spread, with times from about 6 to just over 8 hours. The usual path is NH-44 through Ambala, Karnal and Panipat to Delhi, then the Yamuna Expressway or NH-19 south. Crossing Delhi is the unpredictable part.
A cab is comfortable for a group, and the driver stays with you for temple runs. An early departure by five avoids the Delhi stretch's heavy hours.
By train
RailYatri lists a Hoshiarpur to Agra Cantt Express (11906) as the fastest train from Chandigarh to Mathura Junction, about 406 km in around 6 hours 10 minutes. MakeMyTrip gives a range of roughly 6 hours 25 minutes to 7 hours 50 minutes and names other trains, including a Vande Bharat.
Sources disagree about direction, so do not assume. Check IRCTC for your date.
Fly or drive
Chandigarh has air links to Delhi, but the airport transfers at both ends make the time saving small. Unless you have a tight schedule, the road or train is better.
A long weekend plan
- Friday night: leave after work, rest at a halt near Delhi or push through.
- Saturday: Vrindavan, Banke Bihari and evening aarti.
- Sunday: Mathura, Govardhan and Radha Kund.
- Monday: Barsana before the drive home.
Chandigarh families in Braj
Punjabi families often arrive with large groups and ask for langar-style meals and kirtan. We help with a tempo traveller, and a guide who will speak in Punjabi-friendly Hindi.
Splitting the journey
The long drive is easier with a halt. Karnal and Murthal are known for their roadside food, and a clean dhaba can give you a proper breakfast. If you leave in the afternoon, a night halt in Delhi or Faridabad lets you start Vrindavan fresh.
Some families prefer to take the morning train to Delhi and then a cab, which divides the effort. We can arrange the second half from New Delhi or Hazrat Nizamuddin.
Panchkula, Mohali and Zirakpur pickups
Pickups from Panchkula, Mohali or Zirakpur join NH-44 slightly sooner than the city centre. Share your location pin and we plan the start time. A tempo traveller seats larger groups comfortably and keeps luggage out of sight.
Temples for a first visit
For a first Braj visit, keep the list short. Banke Bihari and Radha Raman in the old lanes, Prem Mandir after dark, and Mathura's Janmasthan with Dwarkadhish on the second morning are plenty. Govardhan parikrama is long, so ride in a cab for most of it and walk only the stretches you love.
Barsana's Shriji temple rises up many steps, so elders may prefer the lift-free but gradual path with rests.
