गोविंद कुंड

Govind Kund

Where Indra and the divine cow Surabhi crowned Krishna as Govinda after the Govardhan Lila.

KundGovardhanKrishna as Govinda

The story: The coronation of Govinda

After seven days under the lifted hill, Indra's storm ended. Indra, ashamed, came with the divine cow Surabhi, bowed to Krishna and bathed him with her milk and the water of the heavenly Ganga, naming him Govinda, the lord of the cows (Srimad Bhagavatam 10.27). The kund of this abhisheka is called Govind Kund and lies near Anyor, close to Govardhan.

Local tradition honours it as the place of that coronation. The Bhagavatam gives the story without naming the lake, so the location is tradition.
