Holi in Barsana

Lathmar Holi is a spectacle and a tradition. What to know before you go, and how to stay safe in the crowd.

Barsana, the home of Radha ji, celebrates Lathmar Holi in the days before Holi, when women playfully beat the men with sticks. Nandgaon and Barsana take turns, and the dates shift each year with the calendar, so check them before you plan.

It is extremely crowded. Roads close to vehicles well before the temple area, so expect a long walk. Arrive early, and agree a pickup point with your driver in advance.

Wear old clothes you do not mind ruining, protect your phone in a sealed pouch, and use sunglasses to shield your eyes from colour. Keep to the edges if you are with children or elders.

Book your cab and stay early. Rooms across Braj fill up fast in Holi week, and fixed-fare bookings help you avoid surge-style surprises.

Planning your yatra? Radhe Radhe.

Fixed fares, Braj-local drivers and a warm stay at Laladham.
