October to March is the easiest season for most families. Days are mild, you can walk between temples without suffering, and parikrama routes are pleasant. December and January mornings get cold and foggy, so carry a shawl for early mangala aarti.
Holi (February or March) and Janmashtami (August or September) are the most vibrant times. They are also the most crowded. Expect long queues, road closures near the main temples and higher stay demand. If you want these festivals, book your cab and room several weeks ahead.
April to June is very hot, often above 40 degrees in the afternoon. If you must travel then, do darshan early morning and late evening, and rest indoors from noon to four.
The monsoon (July to September) turns Braj green and the Govardhan area is especially lovely. Roads can be slow after heavy rain, so keep a little extra time in your plan.
