सांकरी खोर

Sankari Khor

The narrow pass between Barsana's hills where Krishna and his friends waylaid the gopis for a 'toll'.

The story: The narrow pass and the toll of love

Sankari means narrow and khor means a pass. Between two hills of Barsana lies a tight gap through which the gopis carried curd and butter. Krishna and his friends blocked it, teasing them and demanding a toll in butter. This is the Barsana counterpart of the Daan Lila at Govardhan's Daan Ghati.

The narrative comes from the poetry of the Braj acharyas and folk tradition, not from the Bhagavatam text. It is a sweet, playful story and a short walk on the Barsana parikrama.

Where this is told
  • Dana-keli-kaumudi (Rupa Goswami): the toll lila
